    PRODUCT INFORMATION

On June 4, 1873, Parliament decided to move to the gold standard from 1874. Norwegian krone (symbol - NKr) = 100 ore, introduced by law of April 17, 1875 in connection with Norway's entry into the Scandinavian Monetary Union. Prior to this, the currency was the special ler. On August 5, 1914, the exchange of banknotes for gold was suspended, in 1916 it was restored. Due to the fact that the volume of banknotes issued far exceeded the gold reserve, the exchange of banknotes for gold in April 1916 became optional for the Norwegian Bank. On March 19, 1920, the exchange of banknotes for gold was suspended, on May 1, 1928 it was resumed. On September 27, 1931, the gold standard was abolished. Until 1917 (formally - until 1924), in addition to national money, banknotes and coins of Sweden and Denmark were in circulation.

Since 1940, the Norwegian Bank was in exile in London, the gold reserves were taken to the UK, the USA and Canada. Bank branches in Norway operated under the control of the occupying authorities. During the occupation period, a credit office was not established in Norway and military Reichsmarks were not put into circulation. The Norwegian bank was obliged to exchange military Reichsmarks for crowns, first from the military command, and then from the General Directorate of Credit Banks with the transfer of the "equivalent" amount in military Reichsmarks at a fixed rate (military mark = 1.67 crowns) to the account of the Norwegian Bank in the Reichsbank. The money supply during the war years increased 5 times. During the liberation of Norway, banknotes of the Norwegian Bank, printed in England, with the dates 1942 and 1944 were used in small quantities. From September 9 to September 22, 1945, old banknotes were exchanged for new ones 1: 1, banknotes of 1 and 2 crowns were canceled.

In 1962, the mint was transferred to the Norwegian Bank. In 2000, the mint was transformed into a limited liability company. In 2004, the name of the company "Royal Norwegian Mint" was changed to "Norwegian Mint". The designation of the yard is crossed hammers.

    Modern coins of Norway

On May 1, 1974, coins in the 1st and 2nd eras and coins in the 5th era, which were issued before 1973, were withdrawn from circulation. On January 1, 1984, coins in the 5th and 25th era were withdrawn, on January 23, 1992 - in the 10th era. On September 16, 1996, 50 era coins were withdrawn, which were issued in 1874-1996, and the issue of new type 50 era coins began. Since May 1, 2012, coins in the 50th era have also been withdrawn from circulation. Currently, coins in denominations of 1, 5, 10 and 20 crowns are in circulation. Coins in 1 and 5 kroons are made of copper-nickel alloy, in 10 and 20 kroons - from copper-zinc; the peculiarity of coins in denominations of 1 and 5 crowns is the presence of a round hole in the center.

    Banknotes

Currently, banknotes are in circulation in denominations of 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 crowns.

The Norwegian bank intends to replace all banknotes in circulation during 2017-2019. On May 30, 2017, new banknotes of 100 and 200 crowns were put into circulation. Banknotes of the same old-style denominations became legal tender on May 30, 2018 and are accepted for exchange until May 30, 2028. On October 18, 2018, new banknotes of 50 and 500 crowns were put into circulation.

Norway currently has a free floating exchange rate regime. The criterion for the effectiveness of the exchange rate policy (the exchange rate anchor) is inflation indicators. The exchange rate of the Norwegian krone varies significantly from year to year, due to the dependence of the country's economy on fluctuations in oil prices. For example, in January 2002, the kroon exchange rate against the US dollar was 1 USD = 9 NOK, and in July of the same year it was already 1 USD = 7.36 NOK.
