Based on a doctoral thesis, this study discusses a dozen surviving metopes from the ancient temple of Athena at Ilion (Troy), to be precise, the excavations identified as layers VIII and IX of Schliemann's excavations at Troy. In classical architecture, a metope is a rectangular architectural element between two triglyphs in a Doric frieze -they often had painted or sculptural decoration, and many of them were figural.
Hardcover. 6"x9.5", 43 pages plus 31 black & white plates. Minor soil, light wear, with a clear plastic overlay jacket that has some age-darkening and soil.
