Batman and Commissioner Gordon try to uncover the mystery of a strangler who strikes during smoggy days, throttling his victims with a yellow ascot. After finding three victims, Batman and Commissioner Gordon conduct separate investigations in order to find the killer. Gordon manages to find a dead man, suspected of being the murderer. But Batman finds the real killer, who is not one person, but three men who conspired to help each other eliminate their enemies.

Note: The plot of "Killer in the Smog" is reminiscent of Patricia Highsmith's novel Strangers on a Train, adapted to film by Alfred Hitchcock in 1951.
