In 1970, during the Vietnam War, Tay Ninh province was an important area of operations for both North Vietnamese forces and the allied coalition, including the United States military. The 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment (ACR), a unit of the U.S. Army, played a significant role in operations in and around Tay Ninh province during this time.

The 11th ACR was a highly mobile and versatile unit equipped with armored vehicles, including tanks and armored personnel carriers. It operated primarily in a reconnaissance and security role, conducting patrols, providing security for key installations, and engaging enemy forces in combat.

Tay Ninh province, located northwest of Saigon near the Cambodian border, was strategically important due to its proximity to infiltration routes used by North Vietnamese forces coming from Cambodia. The area was characterized by dense jungles, rugged terrain, and numerous enemy base areas and supply routes.

In 1970, the 11th ACR conducted numerous operations in Tay Ninh province aimed at disrupting enemy activities, interdicting supply lines, and providing security for allied installations and population centers. These operations often involved intense combat engagements with North Vietnamese forces and Viet Cong insurgents.

One notable operation involving the 11th ACR in Tay Ninh province during 1970 was Operation Toan Thang II, also known as Operation Junction City II. This operation was a large-scale search-and-destroy mission conducted by U.S. and South Vietnamese forces aimed at rooting out enemy forces and base areas in the region.

Throughout their deployment in Tay Ninh province and other areas of Vietnam, the 11th ACR demonstrated courage, skill, and resilience in the face of a determined enemy. Their efforts contributed to the overall allied effort to disrupt enemy operations and protect South Vietnamese territory from infiltration and attack.
