DESCRIPTION & CONDITION:

Jean-Baptiste Le Prince (1734-1781) was an important French etcher and painter, a pupil of the great painter François Boucher (1703–1770). Le Prince traveled to Russia to work for Catherine the Great at the Imperial Palace in 1758, returning to Paris in 1763. Drawings which he had made in Russia gave him material for many paintings and several series of etchings, of which this image of a mushroom seller is one. Originally published in 1768, this is a 19th century restrike, possibly from a collected edition of his Russia images published in the 19th Century.

Single plate. 8.5x10.5, with an image measuring a bit over 3.5x4.5. Some soil and discoloration to the outer edges of the paper, corner chips, stab holes down the left side. Light pencil notes regarding the subject.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR OVERSEAS BUYERS, PLEASE NOTE:

SHIPPING: To comply with Ebay’s policies, all packages are shipped using recorded/trackable methods and you should check the postage quotes before completing a purchase. Our International shipping charges are based on the weight, when packed, of each package -we offer “combined shipping charges” for orders for more than one item –this often means the shipping cost for the items is less than it would have been if they had been purchased and shipped one at a time, so please ask us for a shipping quote if you are thinking about buying more than one item. Thanks!

CUSTOMS CHARGES: Your post office may impose a customs charge on your incoming package, we have no control over this and no information about it, please check with your post office for more information. It is against U.S. law and Ebay rules for us to lie on the customs form about the value of packages, please do not ask us to do this.
