This deightful classic by Swedish master sculptor, Christian Eriksson (1858-1935) is cast in bronze with dore finish and is simply and affectionately entitled, "Elof".  Standing 7 5/8" tall, it depicts a young boy on the shore wiggling his toes in the sand and water and bears the mark of the Bergman foundry.  It is signed and dated as shown and bears the foundry marks/524-10 over 5 on the underside.  Eriksson was trained as a craftsman cabinetmaker and disovered his skill as a sculptor in the 1880's winning a medal and scholarship at the Paris Salon in 1888.  He has numerous public commissions in Sweden and often incorporates elements of the humorous or fanciful in his works.
