Description:  It is an original vintage map printed in 1962 for Antonin Becvar's Atlas of the Heavens: Atlas Coeli 1950.0, Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, a copy of the title page and the key will also be included for reference. It is being sold as a single loose map shown in the main pic photographed against a dark background, thus it is not mounted, matted nor framed. This is a particularly nice map for framing since it is from the enlarged and elongated edition with no centerfold.

Antonin Becvar's Atlas of the Heavens: Atlas Coeli 1950.0.   Antonin Becvar (1901-1965), was a Slovakian astronomer and founder of the Skalnate Pleso Observatory from where he produced the Atlas Coeli, which was first published in 1948 in Slovakia by the Academy and then by Sky Publishing from about 1950-1975. This map is from the 1962, 4th edition, enlarged. The atlas was very unique, compiling for the first time the accurate positions of all stellar (stars) and nonstellar (galaxies, star clusters, nebula, etc.) objects down to a magnitude of 7.75, basically everything that can be seen in an 8 inch telescope. It was a wealth of data for both the amateur comet hunters and professional astonomers and remained the state of the art reference until it was outdated by Tirion's Sky Atlas 2000.0 in 1981.

Size: The map image area measures approximately 15 by 21 inches (38x53cm) on a 16 1/2 by 23" (43x58cm) page with a margin all around for framing as seen in the pic.

Condition: The map is in Very Good to Excellent condition, blank on the reverse, flat with no centerfold. Other than a soft crease on the tip of the upper right corner, it is very clean with beautiful color that would frame up well. The pics are of the actual map.
