John Prine helped her get signed to Philo Records (Rounder Records' folk label), and Warner Brothers jumped in and bought her contract, re-releasing this album, with its liner notes written by John Prine. Her career with Warners lasted three albums, all which are worth seeking out, as are all her other releases on a few indie labels. She's unique and a strong songwriter in the manner of Nanci Griffith and others, and her southern accent brings a traditional country flavor, while the songs themselves have some old-tyme gospel influence in the lyrics as well as the arrangements.
