"The Biggest Blast Before the A-Bomb. A look back at the 1917 Halifax Harbor Explosion in historical cartoon format.  It still stands as the world's largest man-made accidental explosion. The city of Halifax was devastated by the huge detonation when the SS Mont-Blanc, a French cargo ship, fully loaded with wartime explosives, collided with SS Imo a Norwegian ship. About 2,000 people were killed, 9,000 people were injured, and 200 people were blinded.
