Description

A recording studio quality compressor at your fingertips.

Compressor, which enables high-dimensional compression that can only be achieved with Empress Effects, has been updated to MKII. The sound is inspired by the studio recording classic Urei 1176 compressor/limiter, but now it's more compact and has new features.

Input/gain reduction level LED meters, independent attack and release controls, parallel compression with the MIX knob, external side chain, and other controls that were only available on high-end studio compressors have been condensed into the size of a pedal. The MKII also features a "Tilt" tone EQ control and an adjustable sidechain high-pass filter on top of the compression detection circuit.

Compared to conventional compressor pedals that add too much color and change the sound, you can simply create overwhelmingly high-level sounds. With complete control over musical expression, delicate touch, and superb control over sound, the Compressor MKII is sure to be a must-have for any player.

■Full control and LED meter similar to a studio compressor.

Equipped with all the same controls as rack-mounted equipment in a recording studio. Opens the door to new sound creation for guitarists and bassists. Input/Ratio/Attack/Release/Output can be controlled individually, allowing you to pursue the optimal compression for any song. From transparent compression similar to a studio compressor to deep limiting sounds, you get the best sound and control in pedal format.

In addition, it is equipped with a highly visible LED meter that has never been installed on a pedal type compressor! This excellent meter can monitor both gain reduction and input level at the same time, allowing you to visually check the GROOVE of your music while shaping your sound.

Empress Effects' Compressor MKII is the only compressor that can perfectly handle all levels of professional performance.

■Equipped with mix control for original sound and effect sound!

Compressor MKII allows you to use a guitar pedal to achieve the "parallel compression" technique used in studio recording.

Normally, the output of a compressor pedal is 100% of the effect sound, but with this unit equipped with a "Mix controller" as standard, you can freely control the ratio of dry/wet signals. If you use only the compressed effect sound (wet), the sound will inevitably sound congested, but by adding a little bit of the original sound (dry), the sound will become surprisingly lively. With just one pedal, you can achieve an organic compression effect that maintains complete control over dynamics and sustain without losing any of the original sound.

■TONE control that gives the appropriate color to the compressed sound.

A new “TONE control” has been added to Compressor MKII.

This tilt-type tone control allows you to give the compressed sound just the right color. With 500Hz in the center, turning to the right will "boost treble/cut bass". To the left you can "boost bass/cut treble".

■Side chain high pass filter and advanced settings.

Compressor MKII is equipped with an advanced "side chain high pass filter".

By cutting the low frequencies of the signal sent to the gain reduction detector, you can prevent the compression from overreacting to low frequencies. The high-pass filter frequency can be selected from 120Hz/OFF/240Hz using the switch on the main unit. This studio technique provides optimal compression for many instruments.

Additionally, the top of this unit is equipped with a TRS terminal that allows you to connect external devices to the side chain circuit, allowing side chain control from an external EQ unit, etc. By emphasizing specific bands with equalization, you can make the compression response particularly strong for peaky parts such as picking. It allows you to create a professional sound with more control over harsh sounds.

In addition, in the advanced settings, you can set whether to start up with effect bypass or effect on when the power is turned on. This is a very useful feature if you want to use the compressor in an always-on state.

■Differences between Compressor MKII and Bass Compressor

●MKII's side chain high pass filter has two frequency options to choose from, while Bass can be freely set between 20Hz - 400Hz with a knob. A side-chain high-pass filter is particularly effective for instruments that have a lot of low-frequency information, such as bass, because it smooths out the high-end that pops out, but at the same time doesn't completely crush the low-end. Fully configurable knobs allow for more precise filter control. Although high-pass filters are not that important in guitars, the MKII also has filter options that allow you to create a wide range of sounds.

●In contrast to the MKII's Tone knob, Bass is equipped with a "Tone + Color" switch, and provides two preset EQ curves optimized for the character of the bass. One is a mid-scoop centered at 300Hz that slightly boosts the low range, and the other is a mid-boost centered at 2kHz. Boost makes the string resonance and pick attack stand out and makes it more aggressive, while Scoop removes muddiness and creates a warmer, more pleasant tone. The Color circuit is activated when you turn on one of the EQ curves. This circuit consists of mild clipping and adds slight harmonic distortion. There's also a slight volume boost and filtering added to make it the perfect match for bass. It's actually great in combination with guitar, but I wanted to make something special for bass! An internal DIP switch allows you to turn off the Color circuit independently of the EQ shape.

●Bass Compressor has expanded response to low frequency bands. Especially when using light compression with the Input knob set low, you'll feel a rich low end.
