ARTIST: Willer
Jørgensen is a rather mysterious Danish artist. Although he is recognized for
his skillful paintings and his works have been sold (some at very high prices)
at auctions several times, very little is known about him. He was primarily a
landscape painter and seems to have been influenced by the famous Danish artist
Peder Mønsted.
PAINTING:
Oil on board. The painting is an atmospheric rendering of a horsedrawn sleigh
moving through a small, snow-covered village. The mountainous landscape in the background
excludes Denmark from being the scene in the painting, and because of similar
paintings that I’ve seen from this artist which were from Norway, I assume that
this is also the case with this one. The painting is dated to 1935. Signed: “Willer
J” in the lower left corner.
SIZE: With
frame: 61 cm/24" * 44 cm/17.3". Without frame: 45 cm/17.7" * 28 cm/11".
CONDITION: The painting is in
great ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint. The frame has
scratches and stains.
