THE PRACTICAL WILDFOWLER JOHN MARCHINGTON ADAM & CHARLES BLACK 1977 1st edition. 24 x 16 cm. 144 pages + 4 plates and photos in text. HB/DJ WILDFOWLING is one of the most difficult and hardest forms of shooting. The problems of quarry recognition are immense, conditions are tough and the worse the weather the greater the chance of good sport. In spite of this, more and more people are attracted by this demanding and challenging pursuit and there has never been a greater need for a comprehensive book for the newcomer, who may know about shooting, but who has never been wildfowling. In this book, John Marchington advises the novice wildfowler on both the practical and ethical aspects of the sport. What can you shoot and where ? What should you wear ? What cover can you find or create on a bleak marsh and how can you move about safely and inconspicuously ? What is the best gun to use and what are the best times and most likely places to find the quarry ? As Arthur Cadman says in his Foreword: 'John Marchington's The Practical Wildfowler helps to fill a need which every beginner to every sport has. In non-technical terms he has sorted the wheat from the chaff, with a book full of expert advice which explains where, when and, most important, why.' The book is illustrated with 26 of John Marchington's own photographs and four pages of specially drawn illustrations of the quarries in flight by Tom Banks.
