1968-1969 Sports Cards For Collectors (SCFC*)

#75 - Samuel Earl Crawford ~ Detroit Tigers & Cincinnati Reds

"Wahoo" Sam was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1957.

Scarce Line Drawing Art Card made from original artwork by Myron S. Aronstein

*In the late 1960's, collector Mike Aronstein started a company by the name of Sports Cards For Collectors (SCFC) - a forerunner to his later firm, TCMA (The Card Memorabilia Associates, Ltd.).

His very first set featured line drawings of famous major league baseball players in a larger (approximately) 3-1/2" X 4-1/4" format. Cards of this size fit well in standard 4-pocket collector pages.

If memory serves correctly most of the drawings were done by Mike's uncle, Myron S. Aronstein. The project became too much for Myron (who usually signed MSA on his art pieces), however, so his wife did some of the drawings. Margie Aronstein's contributions are designated "MA".

In addition to the art line drawing, the player's full name, position, years of professional baseball (Major and minor League) experience and card number are staples of card front side. The back is blank although some cards include a copyright line.

The first 36 cards were issued in 1968 while cards #37-78 followed in 1969. In addition, there were 4 checklist cards making 82 cards in the entire set.

We are offering a card from this seldom-seen set. It is estimated that only a few hundred sets were originally produced more than a half century ago. This is a great opportunity for hobbyists to acquire a scarce card from a collector-issued set that was produced before the hobby's first sports collectors convention. Truly this is a card with both historic and baseball hobby pedigree!

Condition: Very Good to Excellent or better - check the high-resolution scans, front and back. A blue background is provided to assist in evaluating the cards corners and edges.

We will ship ANY number of single cards up to and including 8X10 inches in size via USPS Ground Advantage for the single card shipping cost IF the buyer will request and wait for a combined invoice before paying. Questions? Email us. (eBay standard envelope service is also available within its limitations.)

Important: Shipping Information

Our goal has always been to keep shipping costs low. Our objective is to sell cards and other things of interest to baseball hobbyists - not make money by overcharging on shipping.

  • U.S. residents: We combine multiple items purchased so you pay only the shipping on the heaviest item - all other items ship free of charge. (An exception would be if an item must be sent via media/book rate.)
  • All Other Countries: Email us first.
  • To receive your combined shipping, please wait for us to send you a combined invoice. The eBay checkout system usually displays an incorrect shipping charge. (It is normally too high.) Please do not pay for each item separately; if you pay separately, there is no shipping discount.
  • We pack your order carefully - sandwiching cards between cardboard and utilizing boxes, bubble wrap, etc., as necessary - to ensure your items arrive in the condition you expect.
  • Items are shipped the next business day after we receive your payment. We ship 5 - usually 6 - days each week.

Payment must be made within 10 days after notification of  purchase. BigBlue
