The hatchet was recently obtained from an estate sale, where it was well cared for, age is unknown.

This is an early camping hatchet made by the Estwing company, out of Rockford Ill., not sure of era. Has the original leather carrying sheath stamped no 2.

The hatchet on the bottom metal end cap is stamped ESTWING, ROCKFORD ILL Made in USA, 14A.

The hatchet head is 4 1/4” wide, has a 5/8” x 1 7/8” wide hammer end, and has the steel handle with leather ring fitted grip. 

The hatchet is approx. 12" overall in length.  

The hatchet is in good condition but needs a good cleaning and buffing,……, I don’t believe the blade was ever sharpened much-----but needs a good sharpening and honing,……. As with the vintage of the tool, there is some normal wear, a few scratches and dings on metal and the leather ring handle grip has several spots where the finish has cracked,…, all as noted from the photos.
