Machine Co. of Racine Wis., established its first Calgary branch in 1904 at 1011 1st St. S.W. In 1907, a new brick building trimmed with sandstone pilasters was built on 10th Avenue with its trademark "Old Abe" eagle on the globe on the northwest roof corner. The trademark was established in 1894 and used until 1969. By 1911, the company had a staff of 20, including 11 travelling salesmen who sold "high class engines, threshing machinery, thresherman supplies and automobiles." The eagle from the 10th Avenue building was removed to the Glenbow Museum.
