DAWN, DUSK AND DEER
ARTHUR CADMAN
ILLUSTRATED BY
C. F. TUNNICLIFFE
COUNTRY LIFE LIMITED
1966
First edition.
This celebrated work on British deer was written when Arthur Cadman was Deputy Surveyor of the New Forest and first published in 1966. The late Henry Tegner, himself a distinguished authority on deer, wrote then 'I enjoyed every word of it ... you have done more for our deer than any other man of our generation.'
Arthur Cadman shows how to look for deer and identify the four main species - Red, Roe, Fallow and Sika. Mingled with the facts arc many stories of the years when he studied (and stalked) deer in the New Forest and sometimes in Scotland and other parts of the country.
The beautiful woodcuts by C.F. Tunnicliffe, a friend of the author and perhaps the finest British wildlife artist of the twentieth century, are a delight and add even more enjoyment and understanding to Arthur Cadman's lucid explanation of deer behaviour and history.
