A bracelet is an article of jewellery that is worn around the wrist. Bracelets may serve different uses, such as being worn as an ornament. When worn as ornaments, bracelets may have a supportive function to hold other items of decoration, such as charms. Medical and identity information are marked on some bracelets, such as allergy bracelets, hospital patient-identification tags, and bracelet tags for newborn babies. Bracelets may be worn to signify a certain phenomenon, such as breast cancer awareness, or for religious/cultural purposes.

If a bracelet is a single, inflexible loop, it is often called a bangle. When it is worn around the ankle it is called an ankle bracelet or anklet. A boot bracelet is used to decorate boots. Bracelets can be manufactured from metal, leather, cloth, plastic, bead or other materials, and jewelry bracelets sometimes contain jewels, rocks, wood, shells, crystals, metal, or plastic hoops, pearls and many more materials.

Origin

Ancient Egyptian hinged cuff bracelet, c. 1479 –1425 BCE

Penannular bracelet, Oxus Treasure, Achaemenid period, c. 500 BCE
Although the term armlet may be technically similar, it is taken to mean an item that sits on the upper shoulder: an arm ring. The origin of the term 'bracelet' is from the Greek brachile meaning 'of the arm', via the Old French bracel. A bracelet is also a small brace or bracer (an arm-guard used by archers).

Cultural and religious significance
The history of Egyptian bracelets is as old as 5000 BCE. Starting with materials like bones, stones and woods to serve religious and spiritual interests. From the National Geographic Society, the Scarab Bracelet is one of the most recognized symbols of ancient Egypt. The scarab represented rebirth and regeneration. Carved scarabs were worn as jewelry and wrapped into the linen bandages of mummies. Myth told of the scarab god, Khepri, pushing the sun across the sky.

In 2008, Russian archaeologists from the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of Novosibirsk, working at the site of Denisova Cave in the Altai Mountains of Siberia, uncovered a small bone fragment from the fifth finger of a juvenile hominin, dubbed the "X woman" (referring to the maternal descent of mitochondrial DNA),[1] or the Denisova hominin. Artifacts, including a bracelet, excavated in the cave at the same level were carbon dated to around 40,000 BP.

In Bulgaria, there is a tradition called martenitsa, which sometimes involves tying a red and white string around the wrist to please Baba Marta in order for spring to come sooner.

In Greece, a similar tradition, weaving a bracelet from a red and white string on the first day of March and wearing it till the end of summer, is called "Martis" and is considered to help protect the wearer's skin from the strong Greek sun.

In some parts of India, the number and type of bangles worn by a woman denotes her marital status[2]

In Sikhism, an iron bracelet is one of the most mandatory articles known as the Five Ks.

In Latin America, Azabache Bracelets are worn to protect against the Mal de ojo, or evil eye. The evil eye is believed to result of excessive admiration or envious looks by others. Having newborn babies wear an azabache (a gold bracelet or necklace with a black or red coral charm in the form of a fist), is believed to protect them from the evil eye.[citation needed]

Types
Alternative health
Alternative health bracelets, such as ionized bracelets, karma bracelets, magnetic bracelets, Power Balance hologram bracelets, etc., are not distinguished by their design but rather the beneficial function claimed for them by their manufacturers and distributors. Karma bracelets are made from wood beads and may contain various charms, and are associated with bringing good luck and good karma to those who choose to wear it.[citation needed] No claims of effectiveness made by manufacturers have ever been substantiated by independent sources.[citation needed]

Bangles

Metal bangles
Hard material or rigid bracelets, usually made from metal, wood, or plastic, are referred to as bangles or bangle bracelets. They can be smooth, textured or set with stones. In India, glass bangles are common. There are a lot of handcrafted bangles in India too. Made from ordinary glass that is about 3 to 6 millimetres (1⁄8 to 1⁄4 in) in width, they are worn in groups so that arm movement causes them to make a gracious sound rather like the clinking of wind chimes. In India, it is also common that young children will wear thin gold bangles on their hands and ankles.

Beaded

Amber beaded bracelet
Usually made from loose beads with a center hole and connected by a piece of string or elastic band through the holes. Most often made with wooden beads, plastic, glass or even crystal beads.

Charm
A charm bracelet carries personal charms: decorative pendants or trinkets which are signifiers of important things, interests/hobbies, and memories in the wearer's life. The decorative charms usually carry personal or sentimental attachment by the owner. Are popular with all age ranges, but especially for children.

In recent history,[when?] Italian charm bracelets have become trendy. While traditional charms dangle, Italian charms feature individual pieces soldered flat onto the surface of the link.

Link

Link bracelet
Bracelets made from connecting or linking various or similar components or jewelry findings. Link bracelets can be made of a variety of materials including metals and gemstones.

Penannular
Penannular, meaning an incomplete circle, has been a very common form for bracelets, especially ones made in a single piece of a slightly flexible material such as metal or plastic. It is particularly popular in gold.

Slap
In the late 1980s and early 1990s, "slap bracelets"—flat, felt-covered metal strips that curved around one's wrist when gently hit against it—were a popular fad. Often adorned with neon colors and vivid graphics, these bracelets could be found at inexpensive retailers. A false rumor emerged that "slap bracelets" caused bleeding and puncture wounds and thus they fell out of style.

Sports
Main article: Gel bracelet

Silicone and stainless steel emergency ID sports bracelet (2010).
The use of colored silicone rubber as a material for producing sports bracelets was popularized by Nike and Lance Armstrong through the Yellow Livestrong wristband starting in May 2003.[3] Their success has led to the silicone bracelet becoming a low cost tool for various awareness, information, and charity campaigns. This can be likened to the use of awareness ribbons for similar purposes. These bracelets are also known as "baller id bands", "baller bands" or "wristbands".[citation needed] They can also be referred to as rubber wristbands, silicone wristbands or gel wristbands.[4] For sport climbing, bracelets are designed with climbing cords (dynamic rope) to serve as a mountain climbing gear.

Tennis

Diamond and gold in-line jewelry bracelet, a.k.a. "tennis bracelet".
While playing a match at the 1978 U.S. Open, tennis player Chris Evert was wearing a diamond line bracelet, which fell from her wrist to the surface of the court.[5][6] She said about this, "I dropped my tennis bracelet", and since then diamond line bracelets have also been called "tennis bracelets".[5][note 1] The term tennis bracelet appears in print before this incident, but not necessarily referring to diamond line bracelets. An advertisement for a "sterling tennis bracelet" in The New Yorker in 1975, for example, shows a solid silver bangle featuring a tennis racket design, made by the Gorham Manufacturing Company.[7]

Tennis bracelets are made up of many identical settings, each of which incorporates a hinge. The links are usually riveted or soldered from the sides of the bracelet allowing it to flex freely around the wrist with minimal movement left-to-right. A typical tennis bracelet will feature round diamonds set in four claw settings. Tennis bracelets can be adjusted to fit the wearer by removing links, this must be done by a jeweller.

Beginners guide to Crystals and Crystal Healing

What are crystals?

Crystals are minerals formed underground from three-dimensional repeating patterns of atoms. A crystal's appearance depends upon the natural characteristics of its type and the conditions in which it grows. Some take on strange shapes, some are very small and others grow very large, developing over thousands of years.

Programming and cleansing crystals

The repeating chemical structure of crystals is said to invest them with a kind of memory. This means that crystals have the power to hold energies. You may hold a quartz crystal with the intention of filling it with your love. This is what is meant by programming a crystal. You do not need any wires or a special connection with God - all you need is intention and focus. The crystal will remember your love, which will then permeate any environment in which the crystal is placed. Crystals can remember negative as well as positive energies and so will sometimes need to be cleansed. For instance, an amethyst will actually help to cleanse a room of negative energies (eg. anger) but this means that the amethyst, which will retain an element of that negative energy, will itself occasionally require cleansing.

There are various ways of cleansing crystals. One of the most common is to submerge them in salt water (sea water is excellent) for a couple of days, then run them under the tap to clean off the salt. Other methods include burying crystals in the garden for a few days, leaving them for a while in a stream (pick a slow-running one, or they may no longer be there when you come back for them!) or leaving them outside overnight in normal water to bask in the moonlight.

What gives individual stones their characteristics?

Different stones have different energetic properties. For example, a Tigers Eye can aid those seeking clarity, while Lapis Lazuli is said to expand our awareness and help us attune to our intuition. Rose Quartz is calming and sometimes referred to as the stone of gentle love. Many of the books available contain lists of crystals and what each one means. These meanings are simply interpretations of the energy each crystal carries. Some may consider a crystal with a fresh, lively, citrus feel to it to give zest and promote optimism, and therefore help to reduce depression.

With a little practise and intuition, anyone can interpret the immediate characteristics of a stone. For example, red is the colour of action, and red stones can invigorate and enliven in the same way that the blood in your body gives you life. White or clear stones such as quartz may help you to see more clearly. Purple stones may assist in transformation and change. By all means read and digest the definitions in books but realise that it is important to form your own opinions. The shape of a crystal may also affect its qualities. Some people will also consider the number of facets and, using numerology, which attributes meanings to different numbers, obtain further meanings. Below is a list of the most commonly available shapes:

Single terminated wands
These have a single point at one end and a rough or rounded edge at the other. They are used widely in healing, cleansing and meditation and as jewellery.

Chunks
Chunks are crystals without notable facets. They can be good for enriching a rooms atmosphere, for holding during meditation or simply carrying in your pocket.

Clusters
Clusters consist of a group of small crystals that have naturally grown joined together. Clusters can be excellent for enriching a living environment or workplace. Depending upon their properties they can cleanse, invigorate or calm an atmosphere.

Cut crystals
Cut crystals are crystals that have been cut and polished into shapes such as pyramids, wands or spheres, which can make them very attractive. If they are well-cut the energy of the stone can be maintained and sometimes amplified.

Tumblestones
Tumblestones are small stones, rocks or crystals that have been tumbled over each other many times with increasingly finer abrasive until the sides become smooth and shiny. Many people like to carry a crystal tumblestone around in their pocket to keep the energy of the stone with them throughout the day.

How do I choose a crystal?

You do not need to know the exact properties of every stone in order to buy one, although this may help. It is more important to be receptive and allow yourself to be drawn to a stone that will have meaning for you. If you are in a shop simply stand in front of a group of crystals, close your eyes and relax, and when you open them choose the one you feel most drawn to.

Crystal Tumblestones - Amethyst, Red Jasper and UnakiteWhen choosing a crystal from an internet site it is not possible to touch the crystal, so you need to take your intuition one stage further. Browse through the pictures of the various crystals and note which section most appeals to you. Spend some time browsing through that section. You may find yourself excited by the picture of a particular crystal, with a powerful urge to touch and feel it and a sense of frustration that you cannot. If you feel that you very much want that crystal to be a part of your life, it is likely that on some level it has something to offer you. For example, you may feel drawn to a rose quartz crystal because you need something in your life that can help you develop a love of yourself.

You may see many beautiful crystals but none that compel you to buy them. As with all purchases relating to spiritual growth intent is crucial, and you may need to acknowledge that the time isn't right. If you buy crystals purely because that is what you set out to do then your crystals may lack meaning, and you are essentially starting a rock collection. There is nothing wrong with collecting rocks, but this site is more concerned with using crystals to assist personal development. If nothing strongly appeals to you, accept that the time is not right and come back on another day when perhaps a crystal will plead with you, like a gorgeous puppy, to take it home with you.

In our personal development it is sometimes difficult to know what we need. We may see clearly when helping others with their lives but, as our opinions are coloured by what we think of ourselves, find it very hard to be objective when looking at our own. We may like to think we are loving all the time, but in some situations we may be sarcastic, or we may think we are forgiving, but in reality find it hard to talk to a person who has wronged us. Because of this, our conscious selves are not always best at choosing crystals. You may set out to buy a citrine crystal, having read that it can help dissipate negative energy, but be prepared to have your unconscious lead you to a different crystal. The unconscious or higher self doesn’t get involved with life's day-to-day clutter and thus can get straight down to the business of selecting the most appropriate crystal for you. This is why the best approach to choosing a crystal is to quieten your mind and simply do what feels right.

Healing with crystals

Different crystals have different energies and properties, and between them can affect mental, physical, spiritual and emotional aspects of ourselves. Two Fluorite Polished WandsSimply holding the right crystal at the right time can bring about a change in our attitude and well-being. You don't necessarily need to look up the meaning each time you do this. Over time you may acquire a number of crystals - just take hold of the one you feel drawn to.

The right crystal can affect the energy of an environment, and the energy it holds can influence you whether you simply hold it in your hand or place it by your bed or on the mantelpiece. Crystal healers use their knowledge of the stones and of the patient in the healing process. There are various methods of healing with crystals, such as placing crystals on and around a person while they are lying down, or using a wand or point to focus love, energy and intent on the other person in a way that relates specifically to their ailment and needs.

Can the wrong crystal do me harm?

As with many objects used for divination and healing, a crystal can only do harm in the wrong hands. A crystal healer only uses a crystal as a tool. A great crystal does not make a great crystal healer, just as a great paintbrush does not make a great painter. You do need to take some care if you are looking for a crystal healer. If you cannot get a recommendation from a previous client, speak to the healer before accepting treatment. If you don't feel you would trust them in some everyday matter, neither should you trust them with your well-being. You should try to buy crystals from a reputable supplier and, after receiving them, it is wise to cleanse them (see above) of any negative energy that they may previously have absorbed. Use your intuition and you cannot go far wrong. If one day you feel a crystal no longer belongs in your home, it may be time to give it away. As you change you may find that you want different crystals around you, although many will stay with you happily for a long time.

CRYSTAL HEALING
What is crystal therapy?
A former member of Therapy Directory
By J. Lambert
Published on 23rd August, 2016
Crystal therapy is a complementary or holistic therapy. But what is holistic therapy? In this article, we'll answer your questions.

Image
What is holistic therapy?
Holistic or complementary therapies are types of therapeutic treatment that can be safely offered alongside traditional, conventional medicine. Together, complementary therapies are safe to use with conventional medicine.

It is always wise to contact your GP/healthcare practitioner if you have any serious health issues or concerns, before embarking on holistic treatments.

One type of holistic therapy is crystal therapy. Have you ever heard of this or wondered what it is? And more to the point, how it works?

Well, have you ever heard anyone talk about the chakras? Crystal therapy works with the chakras, as crystal therapy can be used with conventional medicine. You can rest assured that this therapy is all for the greater good, this means all you experience during and after your therapy can only be good for you.

As an introduction to how it works and what the chakras are, I invite you to think about the centre of your body from the top of your head to your toes and imagine colours are shining through in a straight line. You have a clear light at the top of your head, then purple on your forehead (third eye), blue on your throat, then green on your heart, a yellow, orange and red also shine through down the rest of your body.

These colours are connected to the chakras and date back to the years of the Sanskrit language at its earliest. If you read up on this information, you will find conflicting information as to whether they should have petal/flower shapes or spinning vortexes. Personally, I feel them as spinning vortexes.

How can crystal therapy help?
Crystal therapy can help those who cannot sleep or relax, experience sore ankles, legs and shoulders or who struggle with life in general e.g. confidence issues and many other ailments, with many successful results.

During crystal therapy, everybody experiences something different. It could be hot and/or cold movement in the body, or something else. I believe this is due to the chakras re-aligning themselves through the use of crystals being laid on the client at areas of the chakra and through the energy of the vortex in the chakra, which if you imagine is spinning.

If you can also imagine your body with a stream flowing through it, with a small pebble in the middle of your body. The stream can't flow smoothly so this causes ripples around the small pebble, but remove the small pebble and the stream flows smooth again. This pebble could represent something in your past that is holding you back, the reason why you have no confidence or whatever your ailment may be. This is how the crystals and the chakras work together.

The crystals (like everything) are made up of atoms that are constantly spinning. And, within the crystals, the atoms are constantly spinning too, and I believe (without getting too scientific) that the chakras and the crystals either speed up or slow down the balance of the vibrations which, in turn, removes the pebble and allows life's (chakras) vibrations to vibrate smoothly and return the client to a state of peace and calm state of equilibrium.

Tiger’s Eye: Meaning, Healing Properties & Powers
The Meaning Of Tiger’s Eye
Contents  show
Tiger’s Eye represents the power, courage, and fearlessness of the tiger, worshipped throughout history and across the world.

Tiger’s Eye is a member of the Quartz family and has been revered for centuries. It holds many meanings, but it is most commonly seen as a stone that brings courage, power, protection and helps to maintain presence in this world.

Tiger’s Eye is the stone of courage, power, and protection. It bestows on us the ability to maintain our presence and power in this physical world. Tiger’s Eye also protects from the evil eye and can remove negative energies.

It is a stone of health and vitality.

Tiger’s Eye relates to the planet Mars, it balances the Solar Plexus, Heart, and Third Eye chakras. It also stimulates psychic abilities and attunes one with higher energies.

It helps us make our own decisions from within rather than just reacting to outside influences; this empowers us to be more responsible for ourselves.

Tiger’s Eye can protect from the effects of the Evil Eye and removes negative energies. It is also believed to bring success in love, riches, and luck.

The tiger has been worshipped throughout history across many different cultures. There are statues of them in ancient Chinese temples and they were even painted on Egyptian tombs. The tiger was first associated with the sun god Ra, and then later as a symbol of Buddha.

There are many ancient legends surrounding the tiger’s ability to see its prey in the dark and it is believed that if you look into the eye of an angry tiger, it can cause your death or paralyze you with fear.

The tiger has continued to be featured prominently in modern culture too, with many businesses using its likeness to represent power and strength.

Many people wear Tiger’s Eye jewelry to symbolize courage and fearlessness, as well as good luck. Tigers are also popular in Zodiac-themed designs such as astrological signs or the Chinese Zodiac, with Tiger’s Eye representing the year of the tiger.

The Properties Of Tiger’s Eye
The Physical Properties Of Tiger’s Eye
The largest number of Tiger’s Eye stones can be found in the Northern Cape Province in South Africa and Thailand.

However, it can also be mined in Namibia, the USA, Canada, Western Australia, Spain, Brazil, China, and Myanmar. Sources of Tiger’s Eye can also be found right across India.

The color of Tiger’s Eye varies according to the ratio between its composition, which is Quartz, and a golden-brown fibrous material known as crocidolite.

Crocidolite has been identified through analysis of deposits in South Africa as being a fibrous form of asbestos. Therefore, it should be remembered that wearing or carrying this stone over long periods of time can be hazardous to your health.

The banding present in the stone gives it its distinctive markings which, as we know, are golden-brown with black or yellow stripes.

The black cross bands are made from titanium dioxide which is a very hard and stable compound that does not oxidize when exposed to light. It is thought that this material is responsible for the formation of many of the markings in Tiger’s Eye. The red bands are usually made from iron oxide.

Tiger’s Eye is usually found bordering gold deposits and when you are lucky enough to find this gemstone although it may have been removed from the mine, it may be heavily coated with gold.

The Metaphysical Properties Of Tiger’s Eye
It is called Tiger’s Eye because it resembles the eye of a tiger or a cat. It’s yellow-brown to golden brown in color.

The distinctive and striking color found in this crystal makes it one the easiest of all stones to identify. Even to those who have no interest in this lifestyle usually!

That color speaks volumes about what Tiger’s Eye represents. Strength, power, confidence, intelligence, daring, and following one’s own heart and head, no matter the odds.

This is a stone about seeking out the horizon and making your fortune your way, on your terms. But still with a bright smile and a sense of self-assurance that is impossible to shake.

It’s a very attractive stone, similar to Amethyst, no matter what color you get because of the many bands of color it has.

Tiger’s Eye has always been regarded as a mysterious and powerful talisman because it’s all-seeing and all-knowing.

Varieties Of Tiger’s Eye
Other types of Tiger’s Eye include Black, Blue, Red, and Green, but these are extremely rare.

The patterns of Tigers Eye range from a simple stripey pattern to what is known as the ‘Tiger stripe’ which consists of many black arcs across a golden-brown background.

It is not uncommon for Quartz to be present within Tiger’s Eye but it can also exist as a pure stone, or in other words without any other minerals or materials mixed with it.

However, keep in mind that Chrysocolla does not always promote a positive change, as it is a stone that represents the balance between physical and emotional healing. Using this alongside Tiger’s Eye, you will become more assertive when dealing with your problems but sometimes may take things too far.

If any of these situations occur after using Chrysocolla and Tiger’s Eye together in a meditation session or regularly, then it is best to stop using them together for the time being.

Hematite, heavy and relatively hard oxide mineral, ferric oxide (Fe2O3), that constitutes the most important iron ore because of its high iron content (70 percent) and its abundance. Its name is derived from the Greek word for “blood,” in allusion to its red colour. Many of the various forms of hematite have separate names. The steel-gray crystals and coarse-grained varieties have a brilliant metallic lustre and are known as specular iron ore; thin scaly types are called micaceous hematite. Much hematite occurs in a soft, fine-grained, earthy form called red ochre or ruddle. Intermediate between these types are compact varieties, often with a reniform surface (kidney ore) or a fibrous structure (pencil ore). Red ochre is used as a paint pigment; a purified form, rouge, is used to polish plate glass.

The most important deposits of hematite are sedimentary in origin. The world’s largest production (nearly 75 million tons of hematite annually) comes from a sedimentary deposit in the Lake Superior district in North America. Other important deposits include those at Minas Gerais, Brazil (where the hematite occurs in metamorphosed sediments); Cerro Bolívar, Venezuela; and Labrador and Quebec, Canada. Hematite is found as an accessory mineral in many igneous rocks; commonly as a weathering product of siderite, magnetite, and other iron minerals; and almost universally as a pigmenting agent of sedimentary and other rocks. For detailed physical properties, see oxide mineral (table).
