Edward & Henry Anthony operated one of the longest running photographic supply and distributer firms in the US.  Edward learned the trade as an assistant to Samuel Morse one of the earliest American Daguerreotypists.  By 1841 he opened his own Daguerreian studio branching into the photographic equipment supply business by the 1850’s.  His brother Henry joined him as a partner in 1852 and in 1862, the name of the firm became E. & H.T. Anthony & Company.  Besides making photographs and providing photographic equipment and supplies, they became a major distributor of the works of many of the 19th Century photographic artists including Matthew Brady, William Henry Jackson, Timothy O’Sullivan and Thomas Roche.  The company remained in business until 1901 when it merged with the Scovill Company.
