A vintage live steam rectilinear double-sided rod engine mounted on a wooden base with decorative chain fencing. A very intriguing model which appears to be based/ built according to a Double-Sided rod engine. It closely resembles Tuxford’s whose plans are sold by Polly Model Engineering.

This particular model appears to have at one stage been complete and working, now it requires some servicing and tlc to get it back to a good working state. The model itself turns over freely and I have gently bench tested it on air to which it ran. However as you will see in the photos, one side of the crankshaft has loose clamp fittings and there is also a very minor knock on each rotation.

Generally, the model requires some care and attention (the fencing on the base has also come loose at various points) but would make for an excellent display model upon completion.

The base measures approximately 34cm square. The largest flywheel has a diameter of 9 inches and the smallest 4 1/2 inches. The crank rises around 2 inches on each half-rotation.
