Description
Chipp is a great name in American traditional clothing, serving JFK, New Yorker editor William Shawn, architect IM Pei, and other members of the political, intellectual, and creative classes in postwar New York. For some years after the midtown store clothed, Chipp scion Paul Winston continued outfitting men as Winston Tailors. Today, onlly the neckwear line survives.
The model here is the classic sack jacket, with a dartless three roll two button front, lapped seams, and two widely spaced cuff buttons and a single rear vent. The trousers have a flat front, a slightly tapered leg, and a cuffed hem.
The fabric here is a dark gray striped worsted suiting with an open weave, which keeps it wearing cool in all seasons.
The "MG" on the inner pocket label and the green label along the back of the neck mark this suit as the production of Martin Greenfield of Brooklyn, longtime maker of Brooks Brothers's former top line Golden Fleece tailored clothing.

A NOTE ON MEASUREMENTS: Measurements are done by hand, as accurately as possible. They may or may not correspond to label sizes, as garments may shrink, or be mislabeled or altered. Sleeve length is figured by halving shoulder measure and adding arm measure. Ebay size classifications are approximate, and the measurements of a particular size may vary from maker to maker or model to model. FOR THE BEST EBAY EXPERIENCE, compare my measurements to those of a garment that fits you.
