Les Paul Lot of 198 Candid, Unique Photos & Negatives

This lot comes directly from the private collection of musician and producer Ron Lovely. In addition to a long and successful career, Lovely was also a close friend of and assistant to Les Paul for more than 20 years. During that time, Ron and Les started a tradition of giving old, acoustic guitars to musicians they admired. Les Paul would sign and personalize these guitars and refer to them as ‘his postcards’. As he grew older, Les Paul stopped traveling and relied on Ron Lovely to hand these guitars in person to artists when they would come through town. Les eventually died in 2009 at the age of 95. Ron himself passed away in 2018.

Featured here is an absolutely stunning collection of 198 original photos, mostly 4 x 6 inches of Les Paul, taken between the late 1980’s and the late 2000’s. Roughly one-third of the photos show Les at his home in New Jersey, signing acoustic guitars or posing with some of his vintage inventions. Another third is a mixture of Les Paul at various events with invited quests. The last third contains photos of unique live performance shows from the 2000’s.  Altogether this is a most exclusive collection of likely never-before-seen photos of Les Paul. And to make a great lot even more attractive; it comes with hundreds of original negatives!
