This Winter Machine was founded in Yorkshire in 2016 and awarded as best new band by the Classic Rock Society in 2017. Now they have released their 4th studio album. The ambitious new work is a conceptual album about human cloning, identity, intolerance and discrimination. This science fiction story deals with the experiences of a cloned “clockwork man” and his fight for freedom and egality.
The new album is varied and dynamic and has several highlights and a good balance between rocky and soft passages. Part 1 of the opener is very rocky and powerful and with strong guitar work, Part 2 is a nice, sensitive ballad. “Solitude, Silence and Steam“ comes with much drive and great guitar passages plus solo. “Change“ is a very well orchestrated rocky track with magnificent vocals and a massive bass. “Nothing Lasts Forever“ begins as emotional, balladesk song with very nice vocal arrangements and whistle playing and passes into an excellent instrumental part. Much melodics and great vocals are offered in the emotional song “The Light“. The last one is an epic track with a strong guitar sound and a bombastic finale.
New in the band are two talented members, the guitarist John Cook and the keyboarder Leigh Perkins. The fantastic cover was designed by Ed Unitsky. The digipack CD comes with a 12 page booklet. This Winter Machine wurde 2016 in Yorkshire gegründet und 2017 von der Classic Rock Society als beste neue Band ausgezeichnet. Nun ist sie mit ihrem 4. Studioalbum am Start. Das ambitionierte neue Werk ist ein Konzeptalbum über menschliches Klonen, Identität, Intoleranz und Diskriminierung. In einer Science-Fiction-Story werden dabei die Erlebnisse eines geklonten “Uhrwerkmannes” und der Kampf für Freiheit und Gleicheit behandelt.
Das neue Album ist abwechslungsreich und dynamisch und hat diverse Highlights sowie eine gute Balance zwischen rockigen und ruhigeren Passagen. Teil 1 des Openers ist sehr rockig und kraftvoll und mit starker Gitarrenarbeit, der 2. Teil ist eine schöne, gefühlvolle Ballade. “Solitude, Silence and Steam“ wartet mit viel Drive und tollen Gitarrenpassagen samt -solo auf. “Change“ ist ein sehr gut instrumentierter rockiger Track mit tollem Gesang und wuchtigem Bass. “Nothing Lasts Forever“ ist zunächst ein emotionaler, balladenähnlicher Song mit sehr schönem Gesang und Flöteneinsatz und geht über in einen hervorragenden Instrumentalteil. Viel Melodik und sehr guter Gesang werden auf dem feinfühligen “The Light“ geboten. Den Abschluss bildet ein epischer Track mit einem starken Gitarrensound und einem bombastischen Finale.
Neu in der Band sind zwei talentierte Musiker, der Gitarrist John Cook und der Keyboarder Leigh Perkins. Das fantastische Cover stammt von Ed Unitsky. Die Digipack-CD erscheint mit einem 12-seitigem Booklet. Auf thiswintermachine.bandcamp.com gibt es alle Tracks zum Hören. In den ersten Reviews gibt es sehr hohe Bewertungen für dieses Album.
