Offered for sale here is this rare, top-quality Swiss clock in the Egyptian Revival style. The clock was made by Imhof, who are known as the Rolls Royce of clocks and watches. This clock has an 8-day, 15 Jewel movement with a lever escapement and an integral winder. The serial number is 1262284. I believe it dates from the 1940s.

The globe-shaped body of the clock has an ormolu urn finial and is decorated all over with cloisonné/champlevé work. The painted dial has a hinged glass cover with a diamante-set bezel. The clock is held on either side by two winged, Sphinx-like figures with lion's legs and paws. The Empire-style Sphinxes are standing on a white marble base with four brass feet. The back has a hinged brass cover protecting the movement.

This clock looks so fabulous on display -  it really attracts the eye, like a gorgeous work of art!

The clock measures around 7 inches (18cm) high, 4 3/4 inches (12cm) wide and 2 1/4 inches (5.5cm) deep. It is in very good condition; the only slight exception being that four of the diamantes on the bezel have dulled with age. The clock is working (ticking away really strongly!) but it is gaining about 2 1/2 minutes an hour, so it would need to be regulated or serviced to keep better time. There is a part on the back to adjust the timing with a screwdriver - I tried moving it but I'm not sure if I did it correctly. I would normally take it to our repairer but we are currently without transport (never buy a Vauxhall Insignia...) and he is in a rural location.

Antique and vintage mantel clocks may require to be set up and put into beat again after transport. Firstly, the clock must be on a level surface to run properly. Sometimes, slight adjustments have to be made after transit to get the clock running properly in its new position. I am happy to advise you on how to do this, either by email or phone. I can help you with making any adjustments required, but I am not responsible for this. Alternatively, if you are unsure about adjusting the clock yourself you can enlist expert help, at your own expense. Unless stated otherwise, all clocks are working when listed. Antique and vintage clocks are delicate instruments and no guarantees are given or insinuated regarding performance after transit. Antique clocks are unlikely to keep perfect time.
