Here is an original painting signed & entitled on verso

J E Woolford (John Elliot Woolford) 1779-1866


He was born in London. Architecture draftsman & painter. He was employed as a draftsman and later he served as colonial governor in Canada. Some of his work is held by the national Gallery of Canada. He joined the army when he was 19. He left the army in 1803 and he worked as a landscape painter in Edinburgh until Ramsey hired him as a draftsman and appointed him lieutenant governor of Nova Scotia.


This painting is on board 14 x 12. There is a label on the back for Roberson and Miller Manufactures of water and oil colors materials for drawing and painting, etc. London (which dates it to 1828-1839.

Depicts a lady sitting under a tree with a basket of eggs, her hat/bonnet on her arm and a letter in her hand addressed to: Lady Lovely.

In the background is a house/cottage and hills.
