Lovely condition Roman Fibula Brooch made from Bronze with a nice solid patina, some shining metal can be seen on corners as shown in pictures. Unfortunately, the pin is missing as is quite common with these items; they often rot out, and the rust leftover from the iron fitting can be seen. Otherwise, a lovely solid example with decorative features visible.


Brooches were used to hold items of clothing together such as dresses, or togas and are based upon the principal seen in the modern safety pin. Whilst being utilitarian items, they were often stylish and fashionable and this can be seen on this item too
