NEAR MINT (NM OR M-)
NM records are shiny, with no visible defects to the playing surface. A disc
that has been well cared for. NM covers are free of creases, ring wear and seam
splits of any kind.
EXCELLENT (EX)
EX records may have one or two minor superficial marks or scuffs on the playing surface, likely inaudible. EX covers will have only the slightest signs of use.
VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+)
VG+ records may show some visible signs of wear, including light
scuffs or light scratches. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are possible.
VG+ covers have minor wear, including seam wear, a split (less than one inch
long) on the seam, or some defacing such as a cut-out marking.
VERY GOOD (VG)
VG records have more obvious flaws. They lack most of the original gloss found
on NM records. Groove wear is evident on sight, as are light scratches deep
enough to feel with a fingernail. When played, a VG record has surface noise,
and some scratches may be audible. VG
covers will have signs of handling. Ring wear is usually obvious, though not
overwhelming. More creases might be present. Seam splitting will be more
obvious than VG+.
Please do not purchase a VG or below record from us unless you
understand what you are buying. There
seems to be a lot of confusion about this grade. VG does not mean mint. VG records contain obvious wear.
Good (G), Good Plus (G+) & Very Good Minus (VG–)
Vinyl will have significant surface noise and groove wear. Covers will have wear
and damage evident.
POOR (P)
and Fair (F)
Records are cracked, warped, or skip and/or repeat when an attempt is made to
play them. Covers are heavily damaged.
