One of the finest types of Victorian ale glass this exquisite
example is quite possibly the work of Stevens and Williams. However, as we are
unable to definitively attribute this engraving pattern to them we can’t be
sure. The identical form was also used by Northwood after 1870 (as part of
their Hector and Ajax series), the Stourbridge Glass Co another of the many
fine Stourbridge glassmakers of the period. They shape appears in the Stevens
and Williams pattern book from October 1869 and was called a “French
Ale Glass“
