In an unusual tale, Captain America is mystically transported to a land where only American legends reside including Johnny Appleseed, Pecos Bill, John Henry, Paul Bunyan, and Uncle Sam. Cameo appearance by the Avengers. First back up story: "Fighting side-by-side with Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos" Script by Tom DeFalco and Ron Frenz. Pencils by Ron Frenz. Inks by Bob Petrecca. A retelling of Sgt. Fury 13 (originally published in December 1964) from the viewpoint of Captain America and Bucky. Second back up story: "Man of Straw" Script by Mark Gruenwald. Pencils by Mark Bagley. Inks by Dan Panosian. The U.S. Agent comes to grips with his role in the deaths of right-winger and left-winger. Third back up story: "Bad to the Bone!" Script by Mark Gruenwald. Pencils by Ron Wilson. Inks by Fred Fredrickson. The story explains how Crossbones first met the Red Skull and became one of his operatives.
