2 Antique Sterling Silver Thimbles

 Simons Bros.* Circa 1880s-90s

Both of these sterling silver thimbles were made by Simons Brothers of Philadelphia. One has a wide fluted band and is what Simons called their "Fluted Octagon" pattern. They patented it in 1889. Gay Ann Rogers shows it on p. 85 of her book American Silver Thimbles. It has the Simons shield inside the top along with "Sterling silver". The size (8) is on the band. The condition is excellent, crisp and in round with no holes, dents or other damage. It is not personalized.

The double band thimble has a palmette and scroll design on the lower band. It has the tiny Simons shield in the top and tests solid sterling silver but is not so marked. The size (8) is on the band. Aside from a small needle hole in the side, it's in nice condition. A script monogram (KR) is engraved on the smooth upper band.
