ARTIST: Christian Aigens is a well-listed Danish artist, whose works have been offered at auctions multiple times, including famous auction houses such as Bruun Rasmussen and Christie’s. He was also an exhibitor at the famous Charlottenborg. He went to various art schools – among them the Royal Academy of Art in Copenhagen from 1888-1890. He went on study trips to Switzerland and the Faroe Islands. Aigens is first and foremost a portrait and figure painter and was inspired by P.S. Krøyer, Lauritz Tuxen and Julius Paulsen. He often depicts youngsters or common folk, but also interiors. Today some of his works can be found in art museums in Denmark.

PAINTING: Oil on canvas. The painting is an absolutely beautiful rendering of a young girl sitting in a chair by the window with her hands folded. She wears elegant red clothes. What I like mostly about the painting is her thoughtful, dreaming and a bit naive expression, so typical for a young girl with her life ahead of her. I’ll date the painting to the 1920’s. Signed: “Chr Aigens” in the lower right corner.

SIZE: With frame: 94 cm/37" * 76 cm/29.9". Without frame: 77 cm/30.3" * 59 cm/23.2".

CONDITION: The painting is in great ready-to-hang condition - no holes, tears or missing paint. The frame has scratches and stains.
