Eliza Draper Gardiner ( 1871-1955) , born in Cranston, Rhode Island in 1871, was a pioneer in the art of color woodblock prints. She based her art on the Japanese technique, inking the blocks with a mixture of watercolor and rice paste, sometimes with additional use of crayon or pastel. Gardiner taught woodcut, watercolor and drawing for thirty-one years at the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, beginning in 1908. A nationally known printmaker in lithography as well as woodcut, Gardiner exhibited extensively in the United States and Europe between 1910 and 1920, including the Berlin Photographic Company, New York City in 1919; Detroit Institute of Arts, Michigan, and Provincetown Art Association,Massachusetts, in 1922. She had her first one-person show in Boston, Massachusetts at Goodspeed's in that same year. New York lithographer George Miller printed ten of her lithographs in 1932.

She was a member of the Massachusetts graphic arts group, the Provincetown Printmakers. A publication about the artist's work, containing reproductions and biographical material, Eliza Draper Gardiner: Master of the Color Woodblock, was brought out in 1987 by the Newport Art Museum, Rhode Island.

Dr. Hugo Eckener 1868-1954: Aviation History Manager of the Luftschiffbau Zeppelin during the inter-war years, and also the commander of the famous Graf Zeppelin for most of its record-setting flights, including the first airship flight around the world, making him the most successful airship commander in history..
