CONDITION: Very Good Condition. The Stampless Folded Letter with manuscript cancel and 6 cent rate has several horizontal and vertical folds from mailing and filing. It measures approx. 7.5 by 10 inches. It is dated March 22, 1849 and addressed to Luther Boardman in East Haddam. Conn. concerning settlement of taxes due on Rocky Hill property. The letter is from his Brother in Rocky Hill, Thomas Williams. Also a letter from Williams wife, Mary Jane, and sister to Luther Boardman writing to Luther’s wife. Boardman started his spoon manufacturing business in Chester but moved it to East Haddam, Conn. later in the 1840s. It became a very large, successful, and profitable business making Luther Boardman and immediate family very wealthy.
