Here is a terrific lot from a nice collection of postal history that I have on eBay right now!

This is an incredibly rare cover from the Raynor Hubbell Stamp Company, which did business in the Grand Court lobby of the Ellicott Square Building in Buffalo, New York, which at the time was the LARGEST OFFICE BUILDING IN THE ENTIRE WORLD! It is postmarked May 23, 1899 and was sent to a customer in Nineveh, in Broom County, New York. And though the condition is rough due to chipping from brittleness, the corner card design is terrific, as is the advertising content on it's reverse. Raynor Hubbell is a giant of philately in Western New York; he edited a Buffalo stamp journal in the late 1880s, did a terrific mail order business in the early 1890s, and an incredible retail business in Buffalo from 1895 through 1901. That's when the Pan American Exposition came to a close; Hubbell had sold numerous souvenirs AND over 4 1/2 MILLION commemorative "cinderella" stamps issued to promote the Pan Am Expo. He truly was a remarkable fellow!

Also, if you're a fan or collector of the Pan American Exposition, you will certainly enjoy the fantastic award wining book Buffalo Cinderellas! This terrific publication, which won an American Philatelic Society 2018 gold medal award, contains the fascinating stories of the two men (one of them Raynor Hubbell!!) who are most associated with souvenir stamps issued for the 1901 Pan American Exposition.

A marvelous deluxe publication, Buffalo Cinderellas is an unparalleled, extremely detailed, fully illustrated hardcover with over 400 images, over half of which are in vivid color! The book is an invaluable asset to those who collect these treasures, and you can find it in my eBay Store right now; there are a few Standard Classic Edition books still available at this time!

Background: The electrifying 1901 Pan American Exposition in Buffalo, New York offered a spirited message of hope and possibility. Over eight million people flocked to the spectacular Pan Am, and there were substantial opportunities for businessmen to profit.

Two very different people did so by creating souvenir cinderella stamps for the event. One was a reputable man who sold over four million Expo stamps and became a respected philatelic expert; the other was a traveling charlatan who later drifted into the darkness of forgery and swindling.

Their riviting stories and adventures jump off the pages. And the items they created, that are an ever increasing attraction to stamp collectors and lovers of intrigue alike, are  beautifully pictured and precisely detailed inside the book too!
