Here we have an unusual and eye-catching group of three U.S. envelopes to England bearing distinctive British postal census marks that have tied some of the US stamps to the covers. They have minor faults from international postal handling, with some rough opening mainly evident on the back and the 5c Lincoln envelope has been folded vertically clear of stamps and markings.

1. A 1965 Salvation Army  5c issues franking of three, one of which is tied by the distinctive diamond-shaped marking. These markings are generally applied during postal surveys in October and this one was sent from Oakland CA on 10 Oct.

2. A  5c Lincoln airmail stationery cover uprated with two Liberty stamps and a Prominent Americans one for a total of 22 cents. The postmark is of Ithaca NY from Oct 8 1965. All three stamps are tied by the diamond marking and the Reddy Roosevelt one is tied by both of them. A third strike is near the address.

3. A 1972 small envelope from the USS Simon Lake to a legal firm in London. One of the 11c Hawaiian air issues is tied by the GB mark. The postmark, a bit unusually, is from Nov. 9. The backflap has come up with a large portion of the cover but this is not noticeable from the front.

An unlikely and elusive auxiliary marking group that is the result of looking through many thousands of US covers.

The postage on this lot is higher than I would like, which is down to Royal Mail rates and other charges beyond my control such as eBay and PayPal commissions. I use good British stamps to send all my lots and these should result in collectable stamps cancelled by hand in my village post office for the buyer.

As I have some fixed-price lots, anyone who makes a purchase might want to look at them before paying. If you buy more than one item, please wait for my invoice so I can combine postage

When payment is received by teatime British time (it is usually dished up about 4:30) I normally post the item the next morning. Our village post office is closed on Saturdays, however, so if you pay on Friday the item will not go out until the following Monday.
