This sale is for a
vintage hardback FIRST EDITION entitled “Treasure
Trove,” subtitled “Good Things Lost and Found,” collected by John O’ London, pseudonym of Wilfred
Whitten (1864–1942) with a
frontispiece.
It was published
by George Newnes Limited, of London, in June, 1925 (date of Introduction) and
appears to be the FIRST EDITION - one of the wonderful vintage “John O’ London’s
Little Books”, edited by John O’ London.
In this little
book the editor makes an attempt to pull together sayings witticisms bit of
prose and verse that many of us will be familiar with but unsure from whence it
came with no hope of finding it again when memory deserts us so the book has
for example a last words of the famous section - lots of little gems in here -
there is a frontispiece by George Morrow of Punch.
John O’ London was pseudonym of Wilfred Whitten (1864–1942) –
he was Editor 1919-1936 of John O'London's Weekly, a weekly literary
magazine that was also published by George Newnes Ltd of London between
1919 and 1954.
The book measures 6.5
inches x 5.5 inches and has 188 pages.
The book is in
good, neat condition for its age, with minor wear/bumps to the original cloth
hardback cover, with a previous owner’s signature at the front, light foxing near
the covers/rims, and no other ink or pencil markings in the book. The binding is
good with no loose or missing pages.
There is no dust-jacket.
