Antique Carved Cow Bone Stiletto / Awl with Stanhope

French * Circa 1890

This sweet little antique stiletto is made of a solid piece of cow (bovine) bone* with carved details top and center. The top contains a Stanhope viewer with four views of Bayeux. Located in Normandy in northwestern France, Bayeux is the home of the Bayeux Tapestry. This famous textile depicts the events leading up to the Norman conquest of England.

The stiletto measures 3 5/8" long and is in excellent condition with no chips or loss. There's an imperfection in the bone beside the Stanhope on the back side, but it's not damage. The bone has a nice, glossy patina and the Stanhope is clear and readable.

*This item is made of bone from a domestic cow (bovine) and NOT from an endangered species or an ivory producing species.
