Antique Figural Butterfly Steel Embroidery Scissors

Germany * Circa 1900s

The shanks of these figural steel scissors come together to form a butterfly. The butterfly and bows are enameled in black or perhaps niello work and the butterfly's details are picked out in silver & gold. Engraved details are on both sides and they measure 3 5/8" long.

The blades are tight with intact points and they cut very well. The condition is excellent with no rust or even discoloration. The blades are marked "Solid Steel" and "Asbro", a well known Solingen cutler. A pair just like this is shown on p. 116 of Gay Ann Rogers' book An Illustrated History of Needlework Tools.
