Athearn ATH14700 HO Scale PS 4740 Covered Hopper ~ Burlington Northern (BN) #456000

Condition:   Like new condition hopper, the paint and all the details are just like they would've come from factory. The wheels do not seem to have any wear on them, leading me to believe this car has never been run, however the coupler box has been modified. The coupler box has had a hole drilled and tapped to have a screw hold the Athearn coupler cover plate more securely.

The PS 4740 3 bay covered hopper was introduced in the 1960's to meet growing demand for transportation of a variety of bulk dry goods. These cars proved to be very popular with thousands built. They could be seen in a large variety of schemes representing both railroads and private car operators. Today, these cars have been replaced by newer designs, but modelers of the 60's to recent years will still find a place for these on their layouts.
