In July 2001, the unthinkable happens at St. Katherine Hospital, located on the west bank of the Mississippi River in New Orleans, in an area bearing the same name. Two young female patients admitted for overnight observation, are found dead in their adjoining rooms at the end of a dark hallway. Detectives Quinn Donnelly and Michael Andreotti fear the worst; the parish medical examiner confirms their fears. Within weeks, two more women are murdered. Near the end of the investigation, the suspects include four St. Katherine employees. A set up? A love triangle? All the motives to kill. The case becomes dangerously personal to Donnelly and husband Cal O'Connor. How Donnelly is saved from near death in the end is by a means she would never consider possible.
