This outstanding little travel accessory bears the marks for John Reily, London, 1824 and weighs app. 6 oz. troy.  Measuring 1 7/8" tall (2 3/8" tall with shell in "UP" position) x 2 3/8" x 1 7/8" it has a bold acanthus border at the top, folding baroque shell lid latch (not working) and an oval cast and engraved oval relief of a fox head and tail with hunt horn, riding crop and stirrups. Whether by accident of use wear or by design, there are pleasing contrasts between cast details and vermeil flat surfaces that lend a special richness to the piece.
