This sale is for a
vintage hardback edition entitled “The
Pilgrim Cottage Omnibus”, containing the THREE COMPLETE Pilgrim Cottage
novels by Cecil Roberts (1892-1976), with 21 illustrations in photogravure,
including a frontispiece.
It was published
by Hodder and Stoughton Limited Publishers, of London, and is the October, 1949
second impression of the 1938 FIRST EDITION in this illustrated
collected omnibus form (the individual novels had all been previously published
separately).
These COMPLETE
NOVELS were originally published in THREE separate volumes under the following
titles:

Cecil Roberts (1892-1976) was an English
journalist, poet, dramatist and novelist.
From
the 1930s to the early 1950s he lived at Pilgrim
Cottage, Lower Assendon, near Henley-on-Thames in South Oxfordshire. From there he wrote the novels ‘Pilgrim
Cottage’ (1933), ‘The Guests Arrive’ (1934) and ‘Volcano’ (1935) that were
published in this Pilgrim Cottage Omnibus edition.
During the Second World War,
Roberts worked for Lord Halifax, the UK Ambassador to the United States.
Overall, this prolific author
produced some 60 books.
The book measures
7.5 inches x 5.5 inches x 2.25 inches thick! and has 1,199 pages +
illustrations.
The book is in
good, internally clean and neat condition for its age, with minor wear and is a
little grubby/faded to the original cloth hardback cover. There are NO
inscriptions/book-plates and NO other ink or pencil markings in the book. The
binding is good with no loose or missing pages.
There is no dust-jacket.
