This sale is for a
hardback FIRST EDITION entitled “Cricket’s
Strangest Matches,” subtitled “Extraordinary But True Stories from 150
Years of Cricket,” by Andrew Ward,
with numerous vintage photographic illustrations.
It was published
by Robson Books Ltd., of London, and is the 1990 FIRST EDITION (stated).
Here, culled from
the annals of cricket history, is an entertaining collection of stories about
cricket’s oddest matches – some bizarre, some tragic, some hilarious, some
down-right crazy … and all of them true!
Within these pages you’ll find a game that
was played on ice; the game in which two professionals took on eleven amateurs;
the game in which both teams were all out for nought; meet a plague of flying ants who failed to
dampen players’ enthusiasm; the game where one-armed teams versus one-legged
teams; and the one in which the last man scored 163!
The book measures 8.75
inches x 5.75 inches x 1.25 inches and has 301 pages + illustrations.
The book is in
good, bright, clean and neat condition for its age, with a similarly very good
original dust-jacket (not even price-clipped – it cost £14.95 net at the time!)
There are NO inscriptions/book-plates and NO other ink or pencil markings in
the book. The binding is very good with
no loose or missing pages.
A wonderfully
illustrated FIRST EDITION.
