The 1878 Silver Certificates are all seen with the famous black back designs which prominently display the word "SILVER" across the back. This $1000 denomination from the series is rare in any variety and grade. Obverse: Bust of William L. Marcy, 1786-1857, Governor of New York, US. Senator, Secretary of War under President Polk and Secretary of State under President Pierce. Reverse: The backs of 1880 One Thousand Dollar Silver Certificates have a very unique look.
