The 1878 Silver Certificates are all seen with the famous black back designs which prominently display the word "SILVER" across the back. Senator, Secretary of War under President Polk and Secretary of State under President Pierce. Reverse: The backs of 1880 One Thousand Dollar Silver Certificates have a very unique look.
