The Chisel was recently obtained from a sale, and was well cared for, exact era is known.

 

I believe this is an early 2" framing slick wood socket chisel sold thru the Shapleigh HDW Co. out of St. Louis, MO. That was in operations from 1918 thru 1960. This chisel was under their house brand name "Bridge Tool Company". I believe this chisel was made by Stanley Rule & Level Co. or the Sargent Tool Works Co., around the 1930's.

 

The chisel is stamped on the upper ferrule BRIDGE TOOL CO, BEST CAST STEEL.

 

The chisel is 15 1/8” in overall length, and is 8 3/8” long from the blade tip to the end of the socket, the handle is 6 5/8” long

 The blade is a straight edge and is 2” wide.

 The chisel has been cleaned and is in good condition needs a fine honing, a new freshly turn ash hardwood handle was fitted and installed,…...... As with the vintage of the chisel, there is some normal wear, a few minor dings, some minor discoloration, all as noted from the photos.
