GOOD to VERY GOOD CONDITION

This sale is for a vintage hardback FIRST EDITION entitled “A Diary of the Crimea,” by George Palmer Evelyn (1823-1889) edited, with a Preface by Cyril Falls, with 9 vintage photographic illustrations, including a frontispiece portrait of the author in 1873.  Apart from the frontispiece, the illustrations are all official photographs of the Crimean War by Fenton and Robertson – some of the earliest photographs ever taken.

It was published by Gerald Duckworth & Co., Ltd., of London, and is the 1954 FIRST EDITION (stated).

A 30-year-old, intelligent and energetic army officer caught up in momentous events which he recorded in this 1853-1856 diary, whilst he was serving as a British officer attached to the Turkish Army.  He was present at the battles of Alma, Balaclava and Inkerman, and was decorated by both the British and Turks.  His fascinating diary is put in a proper military perspective by the editor's informative preface.

The book is in good, neat and clean condition for its age, with minor wear/bumps and is a little faded to the original cloth hardback cover. There are NO inscriptions/book-plates and NO other ink or pencil markings in the book. The binding is good with no loose or missing pages.  There is no dust-jacket.

A wonderful, illustrated vintage FIRST EDITION.
