Genuine 1944 issued Soviet gratitude document number 203 for troops who took part in entering East Prussia on the 23rd of October 1944.  Thin paper document approximately 21 cm x 14.5 cm.

On July 22, 1941, the Supreme Commander I. Stalin, in his order No. 241, declared gratitude to the troops of the Moscow air defence zone and the personnel of the fire brigades and the police for successfully repelling the Nazi air raid on Moscow. This was the first order of this kind. The following thanks were announced at the end of 1941 for the liberation of Rostov, Kerch and Feodosia. But, since, unfortunately, these successes were short-lived (finally Rostov was liberated in 1943, and Kerch with Theodosia only in 1944), the Supreme did not soon again resort to such a measure of encouragement. It happened on January 25, 1943, by the Order on the occasion of the victories won by the Red Army near Stalingrad, on the Don, in the North Caucasus, near Voronezh, in the Great Luk and south of Lake Ladoga. Since the summer of 1943, such orders began to be issued regularly, several times a month,

The gratitude declared by the Orders of the Supreme Commander, of course, were announced before the formation of each unit, however, for greater personalization, on-site data of gratitude was issued in the form of some letters and personally handed to the soldiers mentioned in the orders of formations and units.

The numbering system came into effect on 24th July 1943, with numbers 001 (Kursk) to 52 being issued in 1943. Numbers 53 to 218 in 1944. Numbers 219 to 373 (Japan) in 1945.   Early gratitude’s were not numbered as part of the system.
