GOOD CONDITION
This sale is for a
vintage edition entitled “Full Moon,”
by P. G. Wodehouse (1881-1975).
It was published
by Penguin Books Ltd., of Harmondsworth, Middlesex, and is the 1975 third printing
of the 1961 FIRST PRINTING in this form (vintage softback, formerly first
published in hardback in 1947 by Herbert Jenkins).
As the full moon
waxes over Blandings Castle, young love flounders in the ninth Earl of Emsworth’s
shrubbery, and Landseer is commissioned to paint the prize pig’s portrait.
Clarence, 9th Earl of Emsworth, is forced to
play host to his younger son Freddie, while two of his nieces, Prudence
Garland and Veronica Wedge are romantically entangled with, respectively, Gally's godson
Bill Lister and American millionaire Tipton Plimsoll.
Complications ensue when the near-alcoholic
Tipton thinks that Bill's gorilla-like face is an apparition brought about by
too much drink; Lister, purporting to be a notable artist named Landseer,
is commissioned to paint the portrait of Emsworth's prize pig, the Empress
of Blandings; and the valuable necklace of Freddie's wife, Aggie, goes missing…
The front cover art
is by “Ionicus” the pen-name of Joshua
Charles Armitage (1913–1998), best-known for illustrating the covers of these
Penguin paperback editions of books by P. G. Wodehouse, although for
40 years he contributed cartoons and drawings to the Punch satirical magazine
as well as illustrations to other books.
The book measures 7.1
inches x 4.4 inches and has 255 pages.
The book is in
good, internally neat condition for a softback of its age. There are NO
inscriptions/book-plates and NO other ink or pencil markings in the book. The binding is good with light creasing along
the faded spine, and no loose or missing pages.
