Sublime noble chess set in
precious bone.
Made in Hong Kong in the
1950s
The king is 7.9 cm high,
the widest base is 3.5 cm and the board is 38 x 38 cm.
The pieces have been
meticulously hand-worked and feature remarkable finishes, especially
considering their size. The dark pieces have been painted with a coral color
that gives them a very subtle, sought-after look.
The white pieces have not
been painted, they present their natural aspect, immaculate, sparkling, smooth
and opaque natural white.
Note that each piece has
its own design, and that the white pieces are also different from the
coral-colored ones.
The board is in
mother-of-pearl-coated wood. The mother-of-pearl gives it its magnificent
iridescent appearance. Its squares are decorated with traditional Asian
pictorial representations.
The game is old but very
well preserved, these sets are very rarely found intact.
The pieces are in very good
condition, with nothing to declare apart from small, insignificant chips on the
base of a bishop and a small lack at the top of a horseman's helmet. These
small imperfections can be seen at the end of the series of photos.
The board is also in good
condition, with just a few traces of age-related wear and a little damage on
one corner, as you can see in the series of photos.
A priceless object due to
its rarity, age and material.
For shipping, the pieces
will be meticulously protected with bubble wrap and completely immobilized.
The board will be fully
padded and caulked with numerous cushioning layers, it will then be immobilized
in the cardboard.
