He is thought to be a descendant of Minamoto no Mitsumasa of the Seiwa-Genji clan, and a descendant of the Yoshino clan of the Suruga-Genji clan. However, even when he was young, there was uncertainty about this military commander, and nothing is known for certain. He is said to have been an ugly man, had one eye, and was lame, but he was Shingen's military commander and was definitely chosen as one of the 24 Takeda generals. He lost his life in the fourth Battle of Kawanakajima. It is often said that ``Yamakan ga Ataru,'' and one theory of the etymology is that it comes from Kansuke Yamamoto.
