Canastota Donald Whitmeyer Dies in Catskill

CANASTOTA-Donald J. Whitmeyer, 21, who died in a Catskill hospital early yesterday after a trailer-truck accident near Cairo, was a World War II veteran, having served 14 months overseas in Japan. He was a member of Canastota VFW. Born in Canastota, July 7, 1926, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Whitmeyer, Roberts St. Rd. He was educated in Canastota schools. Surviving, besides his parents, are a sister, Mrs. Harold Murphy; a brother, Clarence Whitmeyer jr., both of Canastota; his maternal grandfather, John Peters of Herkimer, and several cousins

Second Obituary-Unknown Source- DONALD J. WHITMEYER of Canastota died in a hospital at Catskill Jan. 29 from injuries sustained the day previous in a crash of tractor-trailers. He was employed by the Kirk Co. of Oneida Castle and was enroute to New York city with a load of washing machines. His truck collided with a parked truck and he was jammed in the cab of his truck sustaining internal injuries. He was born at Canastota on July 7, 1926, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Whitmeyer. He was a veteran of World War II serving 14 months in the Pacific. He was a member of Canastota post VFW . Surviving are his parents; a sister, Mrs. Harold Murphy; a brother, Clarence, Jr., all of Canastota, and his maternal grandfather, John Peters of Herkimer. Final rites were from his late home Monday Rev.Charles Hess officiating. VFW gave full military honors.
